The last few weeks have been pretty exciting around here. I’ve got some great feedback from lots of new friends about the Cognitive Edge website and blog, and lots of requests for more sport psychology information. I’m trying my best to keep up with all the email.

I was super pumped for Team Canada going to the FCI World Championships in September, and followed closely, all the great dog and handler teams competing at the USDAA World Cynosport Games in October. It’s fantastic to be involved with such an awesome sport. If you were following along too or maybe participating I hope you got to enjoy some great agility. You’d also know that not every run turned out the way they were envisioned. There were some disasters out there.

“Hey, you can’t have all the great triumphs without the bitter disappointments”.

Or can you?

Listen, losing sucks. Especially when you know you didn’t hold up your end of the bargain. You feel like you’ve let your team down, failed your coach, and failed your family for all the blood, sweat and tears you put into your agility training. I feel your pain. I’ve worked with a lot of agility handlers who used to be just like you, and I know what you’re going through. The feeling of failure, embarrassment, or disappointment.

But here’s the thing: the handlers I work with have become winners. Why? Because they’ve learned the secret that the top dogs know. The difference between winning and losing isn’t the dog. It’s you. Winning isn’t just about the scoreboard; it’s about being in the moment, the best you can be, and having the most fun you can imagine.

After spending years with hundreds of athletes, from novice to elite levels, I know that the winners and losers in any competition are nearly identical. They get the right coaches, invest in their training skills and spend tons of time in the practice ring. There’s one thing that separates the winners from the losers every time: winners have top notch mental games. They don’t crack under pressure. They accept failure and come back stronger than ever. They take control of their mental game and use it to reach new heights, time after time.

And the best thing is, you can become a winner too, just by owning your mental game. Ramp up your training. Take control!

I’m just putting the final touches on a program that I know can make you a winner. And, I’ve teamed up with Susan Garrett to offer some special extras that will take your agility game to the next level. I’ll be launching the product later this week – stay tuned for more details – and get ready to ramp it up!

Cheers;
